I have been in private practice since the fall of 2013. For 5+ years before that, I conducted therapy with veterans and some spouses and partners at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center.
My earlier experience included an internship at a Veterans Medical Center outside of Boston, training at the Naval Academy in Maryland, and serving a diverse population at an urban clinic in Washington, DC. Group therapy has always been an interest, so I often attend the American Group Psychotherapy Association conference. My first career was in math and business, and I have a background in yoga--all of which enriches working as a therapist.
I am involved with a local psychoanalytic institute, the Minnesota Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, where I am "advanced candidate" still in training, as well as a teacher and part of the leadership team. I am pleased that I recently had a paper published in a peer-reviewed contemporary psychoanalytic journal.
I work from a primarily psychodynamic perspective, using a humanistic style, influenced especially by self-psychology, intersubjective and relational psychoanalytic theory. I draw upon a variety of other approaches learned over the years, such as psycho-education, mindfulness, CBT.
